My grandma's soup had a weird taste until I found her secret ingredient
I was making her old soup recipe from memory but it never came out right. Turns out she always added a pinch of allspice that no one remembered. Has anyone else fixed a family dish by tracking down a forgotten step?
That "fixed a family dish" idea is interesting, ngl. I kinda see it the opposite way sometimes. My mom's meatloaf recipe changed when I started making it, I use different mustard. It's not the original, but my version is now the family favorite for my kids. To me, that's not fixing something broken, it's just how recipes live and change. They aren't museums, imo.
