Great-grandma's pickle jar exploded and now I'm a fan
I used to say letting food sit out to make pickles was just asking for trouble. Then my first try fizzed everywhere and my dog hid under the bed, but the crunch was perfect. What old family recipes have surprised you after a funny start?

Oh man, my first try at homemade ginger beer was like a science fair volcano. It shot a sticky geyser all over my kitchen ceiling. Then there was the kimchi that decided to redecorate my fridge with fermented cabbage confetti. I guess I only learn how to do things the messy way.
