Found my great-grandma's recipe box and counted 37 handwritten cards for pickles alone.
It hit me that we've lost that whole world of small-batch, seasonal preserving where every aunt had her own brine recipe for the garden's extra cucumbers, not just buying a jar at the store.

Weirdest ingredient? Probably my attempt at pickle-flavored ice cream. That was a dark time in my kitchen. The cucumbers were the least of my problems. Let's just say it was more of a science experiment gone wrong. I still get nervous around dairy and dill.
