Showerthought: I just read that roses can drink up to a gallon of water a day in peak season

Honestly, I found that in a university extension article online and it blew my mind. No wonder my delivery van's AC bill spikes every July. Anyone else have a fact that made you rethink a basic part of the job?

Doubt that stat is totally accurate for a normal garden. A gallon per bush per day sounds like a lab study under perfect conditions. Most home roses probably get by on way less, especially if the soil is decent. People read stuff like that and start overwatering everything. Makes you question where these "facts" actually come from and if they apply to real life.

Wait, a gallon per bush is a lab study thing? That changes everything. I was about to go panic-water my neighbor's sad looking roses. It's wild how these stats get passed around without the fine print. Makes you wonder how many other gardening tips are based on perfect conditions nobody actually has.

Oh boy, that's the million dollar question right there. Do you think most of those "perfect condition" gardening tips actually hurt more than they help when people don't realize the context?
