Just realized I was wrong about using all local blooms after a huge order for a Denver hotel fell through last spring.

My supplier had a crop failure, so I had to use flown-in flowers, which made me debate if sticking only to local is always practical for large commercial jobs or if it risks your business.

So you had to ship in some flowers, big deal? Is the business really at risk over one order?

Have you seen how tight the margins are on perishable goods? One messed up shipment can wipe out a whole week's profit. It adds up fast.

I used to be like "whatever, it's just flowers" but then I saw a local shop lose almost two grand on one Valentine's order because the shipment came in wilted. Perishables are a whole different beast. You can't just hold onto them like dry goods, every hour they sit wrong is money down the drain.
