Remembering the old way we used to cut planks versus the track saw now
Back when I started, we'd set up a couple sawhorses and use a circular saw with a guide. It was fine, but you'd get a bit of tear-out and the line wasn't always perfect. Then about five years ago I tried a Festool track saw on a big job in Portland, and the clean, straight cuts every single time changed the whole game. What's the one tool that made you feel like you finally left the old ways behind?

Honestly, I still reach for my old circular saw most days.

Read an article about how older power tools were built to last forever. Makes sense you'd stick with what works.

My buddy Mark was still using a chalk line and a skill saw for sheet goods in his garage shop. He fought with splintered edges on every piece of plywood for a bookcase project. Then he borrowed a track saw from another guy in our woodworking group, just for one cut on a big birch panel. The cut was so clean he didn't even need to run the edge through the router table. He bought his own track the next week and said it felt like he'd been working with one hand tied behind his back before that.
