Had to patch a weird corner in a 1950s house in Tacoma last week
The subfloor had a 3-inch gap from an old pipe chase, and I was out of plywood scraps. Ended up mixing some leftover leveling compound with a handful of sawdust to make a filler, let it cure overnight, and it sanded down perfect for the new vinyl plank. Anyone ever try something like that for small, irregular spots?

Man, that's rough. A three inch gap in an old house is just asking for trouble later on, especially in a place like Tacoma with all that damp weather. Really hope that homemade filler holds up for you without cracking over time.

That's a clever fix, but I'd worry about long-term movement cracking it.

Yeah, movement is the real killer. Seen it happen with epoxy fixes on concrete floors that shift with the seasons. Even a tiny bit of thermal expansion over a few years can open up a hairline crack right along the repair line. That little gap lets water in, freeze-thaw cycle does the rest, and you're back to square one. Sometimes the fix ends up weaker than the original material.
