My neighbor's pressure washer went from a gentle mist to a fire hose in two days

He borrowed my old Simpson unit on Tuesday and it was working fine, but when I got it back Thursday the spray pattern was a solid jet that could strip paint. I think he messed with the unloader valve trying to get more power. Has anyone fixed a pressure washer that suddenly lost its fan spray?

Thought unloaders were simple, but nope.

What made you realize they weren't simple? Was it the setup, the parts, or something else entirely? Seems like a lot of people get surprised by the actual work involved. The theory is straightforward but the practice gets messy fast. Would be good to know what the tricky part was for you.

Oh man, that's a classic. Check the unloader valve first, it's probably stuck open. I had to take mine apart and clean out a tiny piece of grit that was jamming the piston. If that doesn't work, the nozzle itself might be worn down from running it without water for a second.
