My brother said to just throw out the old lawn mower. Glad I didn't listen.

The pull cord snapped on my 8 year old mower last weekend. He said it was junk and to get a new one. Watched a video, bought a $15 replacement cord kit from the hardware store. Had it fixed in about 20 minutes. Runs like new now. Anyone have a good trick for keeping the recoil spring in place during that repair?

Honestly I used to be the person saying just toss it and buy new. Then my dad's old push mower needed the same fix and he showed me how easy it was. For that spring, I put the whole recoil assembly in a big ziplock bag before I take it apart. That way if the spring pops out, it's contained and you can wrestle it back in place without losing it across the garage. Total game changer for me, now I try to fix everything first.

Ngl that ziploc bag trick is so smart. I see this a lot now, where one small fix changes your whole view. Like I finally learned to patch a bike tire instead of taking it to the shop, and now I look at other stuff around the house totally differently. It feels good to not just replace things right away.
