My field app crashed during a job site demo yesterday
I was showing a new client in Austin how our software tracks job progress in real time, right when we walked up to the foreman's trailer the whole app froze and kicked me out. Had to pull out a notepad and a pen to finish the walkthrough, which actually made the client ask more questions about manual backups. Has anyone else had a system fail at the worst possible moment and how did you recover without looking like a total amateur?

Totally changed my view on this after it happened to me. I used to think digital was always better but when my mapping software died right as we were showing a landowner the property lines... I grabbed a printed aerial photo from my truck and drew on it with a sharpie. The client actually said he trusted me more after that because I showed I could think on my feet instead of just clicking buttons.

Digital tools are great until they aren't, and that moment always comes at the worst time. Clients don't care about your fancy equipment, they care about getting answers and seeing that you can handle problems without freaking out. Pulling out a printed photo and a marker shows you actually know the land, not just how to work the software. That old school fix probably saved the deal and built more trust than ten perfect digital presentations would have.
