Showerthought: My old pickle crock versus the new airlock setup

I used my grandma's old stone crock for pickles for years, but it was a constant battle with mold. Last spring I finally got a simple airlock jar kit from a shop in Portland. The difference is night and day. No more skimming, and every batch is crisp and sour. Has anyone else made a switch that just fixed everything?

Totally, the new version just feels kind of bland now. I got way better results when I went back to the original steps too.

Yeah the old method definitely had more character. Switched back to it last month and the results were way better.
