Vent: My sister hated the dress I made for her birthday
I spent weeks sewing a custom dress for my sister's party, but she said it wasn't her style at all. It made me realize how personal taste can clash with design vision. How do you handle designing for picky relatives?

Ugh, tell me about it. I tried to paint a mural in my niece's room as a surprise birthday gift. Thought she'd love these vibrant colors and abstract shapes. She walked in, burst into tears, said it was scary. Had to paint over the whole thing with plain beige. Now I always show sketches first, saves a lot of heartache.

Yeah, that's such a common thing! It's like we all have a blind spot where we think everyone will love what we love. I've seen friends buy gifts that just collect dust because they didn't check first. The surprise factor is fun, but it often leads to mistakes. Taking a minute to show a sketch or ask a question makes all the difference. It turns a potential disaster into something they'll really enjoy!

Used to believe in surprises, but sketches prevent tears.
