Tried raw silk for a summer dress and it was a nightmare

Bought 3 yards of raw silk from a shop in Portland last month. Figured it would be flowy and cool for July. Nope. It frayed like crazy and the texture is rough against skin. Learned that raw silk needs lining and finishing seams properly or you end up with a scratchy mess. Anyone else have fabric fails that looked good on the bolt?

I used to be all about raw silk for summer but now I get it - that scratchy nightmare is real. Learning the hard way that it's basically a high maintenance fabric that needs all that extra work.

Wait, you're saying raw silk is scratchy? I always thought it was supposed to be soft and airy, I had no idea it was like that.
