I was set on a silk lining for a jacket until my friend's dog jumped on me

I was designing a spring blazer and had to choose between a classic silk lining or a more durable, washable cotton blend, and I went with the silk for the luxury feel. After a single wear to a friend's house in Seattle, her golden retriever's muddy paws left permanent stains that wouldn't come out, proving my choice was impractical. What's a good, elegant-looking lining fabric that can actually handle a bit of real life?

That "muddy paws" situation is exactly why I switched. I had a silk-lined coat ruined by rain. I use a polyester blend called cupro now. It feels almost like silk, has that nice drape, but you can actually spot clean it. It's held up through two winters of my own messy life.

Cupro sounds like a great find for real life.
