Can we talk about the 'wear it once' culture at fashion shows?

I was watching a video from Paris Fashion Week and a designer said they made over 200 pieces just for the runway, most never to be sold. That got me thinking. On one side, it's pure art, pushing ideas without limits. On the other, it feels wasteful when we talk about sustainability so much. Is the point of a show to sell clothes or just to make a statement? I'm torn between loving the spectacle and feeling like it misses the point of making clothes people can actually wear. What do you think is the real goal of a runway collection?

You said it's "pure art pushing ideas," and that's exactly it. The runway is their gallery wall, not a store shelf.

But if the runway is just an art gallery, why do brands still use those wild looks to sell basic t-shirts and perfume? The statement piece feels like a fancy ad.

I used to think those crazy runway looks were just silly overpriced ads too. But the whole "gallery wall, not a store shelf" thing actually clicked for me. The wild outfits are like a movie trailer - they set the mood and the vibe, not the actual plot. Brands sell the t-shirts and perfume to regular people, but the runway stuff is just them showing off their creative side to get attention, the same way a gallery puts a weird sculpture in the window to get people to come inside.
