Warning: that new glue-on shoe from EasyCare is a real pain in the rain

Tried the EasyCare FormaFlex on a client's horse in Portland last month. We got caught in a sudden downpour during the application. The adhesive set way too fast and created a brittle, uneven bond. Learned you absolutely need a dry, controlled environment for that specific product. Anyone else run into weather issues with glue-ons?

Agree to disagree here. I've used glue-ons in all kinds of weather for years and the product itself is what makes or breaks it, not just the forecast. The FormaFlex is notoriously picky, but there are plenty of other brands that handle a little dampness just fine if you prep the hoof right and work fast. Planning around the weather is basic common sense, but if a product fails because of a little humidity that's a design flaw, not bad luck. Some tools just aren't built for real world conditions and that's on the manufacturer, not the user.

Is it really that big of a deal though? I mean, most glue needs dry conditions to work right. Sounds like you just got unlucky with the timing of the rain. Maybe it's more about planning the job around the forecast than the product itself being bad.

Feel for you, that sounds like a total nightmare. Had a similar thing happen with a different brand last spring, humidity made the glue cure into this weird, crumbly mess. It's not just bad luck like @nathan289 said, some of these newer adhesives are SUPER sensitive to any moisture in the air, not just direct rain. You can check the forecast and still get burned by the general dampness. Makes the whole job a huge waste of time and product.
