Vent: An old timer told me my clinches looked like a toddler did them

About five years back, I was shoeing a big Percheron at a farm in Lancaster. The owner's dad, a retired farrier, watched me finish up and just said, 'Son, those clinches look like a toddler did them with a butter knife.' I was pretty mad at first. But he showed me how he'd hold the hammer at a different angle and turn the nail head more. I tried it his way the next day. It felt weird, but the clinches came out way cleaner and smoother. Anyone else get a piece of advice that felt harsh but totally fixed a bad habit?

What exactly are we calling "old" here, because that line keeps moving. Is there a point where experience just turns into being out of touch, or does that not happen? Seems like a pretty big blanket statement to make without some examples.
