Threw away a perfectly good shoe because of a bad nail-up

Pulled a hind shoe off a Quarter Horse last Thursday. Nice foot, decent wall. Then I saw the nail placement. Guy before me drove a nail right into the white line on the inside quarter. Horse was sore for sure. How do people miss that basic stuff after years in the trade? Any of you run into shoes that were nailed way too far back?

Yeah "poor horse didn't deserve that" is putting it lightly. I pulled a set off an Appaloosa last spring where the last guy had nails so far back in the quarters you could see the heads sticking out past the heel. Horse was dead lame on both fronts. One nail was literally resting against the laminae, just barely missed going into the sensitive part. Some guys think "back in the quarter" means "shove it wherever fits" and its maddening. That white line rule isn't some fancy trick, its basic foot anatomy they teach day one. I swear some farriers just get lazy or rush too much then the horse pays the price for weeks.
