My old Clinchmaster anvil stand finally gave out yesterday
I was working on a big Percheron in Springfield and the whole thing just buckled on the third nail. Had to finish the job with the anvil on the ground, which killed my back. Anyone got a good plan for a homemade stand that can handle over 1500 pounds?

Man, that sounds like my luck. I'd probably find a way to break a solid block of granite. Mason's sand box idea is solid, literally. I used a similar setup with a tire packed full of dirt for a while, but for a Percheron you need that serious base. Did you save any of the old stand hardware?

What did the old stand look like when it failed? For a horse that size, I'd build a box from 6x6 timbers and fill it solid with sand. Bolt a thick steel plate to the top to set the anvil on. The sand deadens the ring and adds a ton of weight so it doesn't walk.
