My mentor told me to soak a hoof for 30 minutes before working on a bad quarter crack
I thought it was overkill, but after doing it on a tough case last Friday, the hoof wall was way easier to shape. Anyone have other tricks for dealing with deep cracks?

Yeah, my mentor told me the same thing and I thought he was just messing with me. I guess the old guy knew a thing or two after all.

What was the specific advice your mentor gave you, @dylanbarnes? I had a guy tell me once to always double check the simplest fix first, and I brushed it off. Wasted a whole afternoon on a complex problem that turned out to be a flipped switch. Now that's the first thing I do every time.

I mean I get what you're saying but honestly I've been burned the other way too. Spent too much time checking simple stuff that was fine while the real problem was something weird and hidden. There's a balance, yknow? Sometimes you gotta trust your gut that it's something deeper. I had a server issue last month, spent an hour checking cables and power and all that. Turned out to be a bad driver that only showed up after three reboots. If I'd just gone straight to the logs I would have saved myself a headache.
