Had a stubborn quarter crack on a show jumper in Lexington, tried packing it with super glue and baking soda as a joke. It held for the entire event.

Read somewhere that cyanoacrylate glue was actually used in field surgery during the Vietnam War. Makes sense that a quick fix with super glue could work in a pinch for a horse too. Not a long term solution, but sometimes you just need it to hold.

My dad tried that trick on our old plow horse's hoof crack back in '92. Worked for about a week until the glue gave out and we had to call the actual vet. I felt like a genius for those seven days though, even if I was just a kid holding the flashlight. Still, it beats trying to wrap duct tape around a hoof, which I also tried once.

Remember reading about farriers using that trick for hoof wall separations. The baking soda acts like a filler and makes the glue set crazy fast. It's a real barn hack for temporary holds.
