Can we talk about how we used to handle hoof cracks?

I used to just pack them with whatever filler was handy, but after a clinic in Kentucky last fall, I started using a Dremel to clean and undercut first. It takes an extra ten minutes but the hold is way better. What's your go-to method for a bad quarter crack now?

Honestly that Dremel step sounds like a lot. My farrier just cleans it out good with a hoof knife and packs it, never had a problem with the hold.

What specific kind of filler does your farrier use after cleaning with the knife? I've seen some pastes just crumble out if the crack isn't opened up a bit more.

My friend's farrier uses Equi-Pak after opening the crack, and it stays put.
