Vent: My grandma's bread recipe takes hours to rise, and I dozed off only to find a dough blob slowly taking over my kitchen.

I woke up to a giant puff of dough that had crept out of its bowl and was inching toward the edge of the counter.

My grandma's rye bread did the same thing to me last winter. I started using a mixing bowl twice as big as I thought I needed, and I always put that bowl on a rimmed baking sheet. It catches any overflow and saves the counter. That trick finally gave me the courage to try her sourdough recipe.

Last month, my whole wheat batter exploded over the edge of my favorite ceramic bowl. I had to scrape dough off the cabinet handles for an hour. Your baking sheet idea is genius, I'm gonna try that next time. My current fix is a giant stainless steel bowl I found at a thrift store, works like a charm.
