Grandma's soup recipe is ruined by her 'pinch of this' notes
I tried to make her famous chicken soup from the old card. It just says 'add a pinch of salt and a dash of love'. What does that even mean? Now my batch tastes different every single time. Why do family cooks think vague notes are helpful? We should write down real measurements so others can actually learn the recipe.

Ugh, those vague family recipes are the worst. Makes you feel like you're failing a taste test you didn't study for.

Okay but that "taste test you didn't study for" feeling is kind of the point, isn't it? It's not about getting it perfect on the first try. It's like a puzzle from your family. You mess it up, you call your aunt, you try again. That's how you learn it. Anna165 has it right, those weird notes are what make the recipe yours in the end. Otherwise you're just following another internet recipe.
