My smart lock decided to be not so smart during a rainstorm
I was coming home from a job in Tacoma yesterday, hands full of tools, and it's pouring. I tap my phone on the lock like usual, and nothing. The little light just blinks red. I'm standing there getting soaked, trying to remember the backup code while my phone is getting wet. I finally had to dig the old metal key out of my bag, which I hadn't used in like a year. Has anyone else had their smart lock just give up when the weather gets bad?

Oh man, that is the worst feeling. Got caught in a downpour last winter and my lock just went totally dead, no lights or anything. Had to fumble with the physical key while my groceries got soaked. Makes you wonder why we even bother with the fancy tech sometimes, right?

Ugh, same thing happened to me last month. I keep a spare key hidden outside now, just in case.

Yeah, the "fancy tech" thing is kind of a JOKE when it fails at the worst time. I had a lock die mid winter, and sticking a frozen key in there felt SO dumb for something I paid top dollar for. Now I just keep a backup key in a magnetic box under the mailbox. Totally defeats the purpose of a smart lock, but at least I can get in my house.
