My laptop kept overheating until I propped it up on two bottle caps

The fan was constantly running loud and the bottom was too hot to touch, so I grabbed a couple of plastic caps from some old water bottles. It's been a week now and the noise has completely stopped, but is this actually safe for the computer long term?

Honestly that sounds like a disaster waiting to happen... those caps could slip out from under the laptop so easily and send it crashing to the floor. You're also blocking the vents on the bottom in a weird way, which might make the heat problem worse in other spots. Plastic melts too, so if it gets hot enough you'll have a real mess.
