My old setup had like twelve cables just piled under the desk. I finally did what viola263 said and got the velcro ties last month. I spent an hour wrapping up the power strip cord and the monitor wires. It's not perfect but now I can actually see the floor back there and my cat doesn't try to chew on loose cords anymore.

Oh man, velcro ties are a total game changer. I mean, I used to just shove all the extra cable length behind my desk and it was a mess. Now I loop the cords and put a tie every few inches, keeps my computer and monitor wires from tangling. It even makes it way easier to unplug something when I need to.
