I used to think restarting your router was a joke fix until my internet died last Tuesday.

My neighbor in apartment 4B said to unplug it for a full minute, not just 10 seconds, and it actually worked. Anyone know why that specific time makes a difference?

My router in 3C works fine after just a quick flick off and on. I mean, a full minute seems like overkill.

My old Netgear router would act up if I just did a quick power cycle. The lights would come back on but the internet stayed dead for another ten minutes. I started waiting a full 60 seconds after my brother, who fixes computers, told me the same thing about capacitors draining. Honestly, that minute wait fixed it every single time after that.

My old IT guy told me the full minute lets the capacitors drain completely. I always did a quick ten-second cycle before that. Now I watch the clock every single time.
