Appreciation post: I finally fixed my terrible Wi-Fi in the back bedroom

Honestly, for like two years my laptop would barely load a webpage once I sat on my bed. Last week I was trying to join a video call from there and it just kept dropping. I looked it up and someone said to change the router channel from auto to a specific one, channel 6. I did it through the router's app in about two minutes and now the signal is solid back there. Has anyone else tried this fix for dead zones?

Did you know changing the channel can even help with smart home stuff? My neighbor had a similar issue where his garage door opener would glitch out every afternoon. It turned out his router was on the same channel as something nearby, maybe a baby monitor. He switched his router to channel 11 and it stopped the random opening and closing. It's wild how much interference there can be on those default auto settings.

Wait, is that why my smart lights keep dropping connection? @casey_ward51 you just solved a mystery for me. I had my old router on auto and my porch light would just turn on by itself at weird times. Switched to a fixed channel last week and it's been totally solid since. It's crazy how much random stuff fights for the same signal space.

My neighbor literally just told me about the baby monitor interference thing @taylor.phoenix and I was like great now I have to question everything in my house that uses radio waves. Guess my microwave has been silently ruining my Netflix for years and I never knew.
