Had a client in my chair who insisted her acne was from 'dirty city air' and refused to talk about her skincare routine at home. Happened about two weeks ago. How do you handle clients who are convinced they know the cause?

Isn't it usually more about what's already on the skin? I'd probably just say something like, "Air can play a part, but let's check what we're putting on it first." That way you're not arguing, just adding info.

Agree with this so much. Saw what @mia_park said and it's spot on. People just shut down if you come at them. Starting with the products already on the skin is the only way to go. It feels like you're solving a puzzle together instead of giving a correction. That little shift makes all the difference in how the advice is received.

Totally get what you're saying, and I've done that exact thing before. It works way better than just saying they're wrong straight up. I mean, people get weirdly defensive about their skincare routines, so starting with what you both agree on helps a lot. Then you can gently point them toward checking their moisturizer or cleanser without it feeling like a lecture.
