Talked to a firefighter about the new code for elevator recall systems, his point about response times really stuck with me.

Used to think elevator recalls were just a minor safety thing. Hearing a firefighter say they can cut response time by half in a high rise changed my mind. That's the difference between a contained fire and a full evacuation. Makes you realize how important those little code updates really are.

Honestly @butler.mark, I get the safety angle but those recalls cause so many headaches. Tbh it feels like they shut down for every little alarm, and then you're just stuck.

Ever notice how we get mad at the safety stuff that slows us down? Like when your car beeps nonstop to buckle up, or the subway stops because someone held the door. Feels like a hassle right then. But that elevator going to the ground floor could be what gets a stretcher through a smoky hallway. We only see the annoying stop, not the disaster it might be stopping.
