Spent $120 on a fancy digital door zone gauge that was worse than my old magnet

I bought the ProZone 5000 last month thinking it would speed up my door zone checks on a big apartment job. The screen kept glitching in the cold, and the battery died after three hours. I went back to my simple magnetic gauge and finished the day. Has anyone found a digital tool that actually works in the field?

Wasn't there a big thread on another forum about digital gauges failing in low temps? I remember a bunch of guys saying the cold just kills the screens and batteries on most models. It seems like the simple tools are still the most reliable for actual job site conditions. Maybe the tech just isn't there yet for everyday use outside.

Oh totally, I had a digital level that just gave up and showed a blank screen once it hit freezing (which was not fun on a concrete pour, let me tell you).

That Milwaukee digital level I bought last winter went dead at 15 degrees. @the_paul is right, the cold just wrecks the batteries and screens. It's hard to trust a tool that can't handle basic job site weather.
