Remember the days when you could actually fix a TV with a soldering iron?

I was working on an old Zenith from 1985 last Tuesday in my shop, trying to track down a vertical collapse issue. Found a cracked solder joint on the vertical output transistor, hit it with my Weller WP35, and it fired right up. Why'd they have to make everything these days so disposable where you can't even get to the board without breaking half the plastic?

Yeah, I had a similar thing with an old Panasonic I found at a flea market. Tracked it down to a cold solder joint on the flyback, hit it with my iron and it was good as new. It's crazy how much simpler that stuff was back then compared to the glued together plastic boxes we got now.

Is it really that serious though? Most people just toss em.
