Rant: Overheard a guy at the supply counter say 'board-level repair is dead'

Honestly, that mindset is why so many shops just swap whole assemblies now. I saved a $700 medical device display last week by just replacing a single blown capacitor on the driver board. Has anyone else found a niche where component work still pays off?

Tbh that capacitor fix is exactly what I'm talking about. What kind of medical device was it? I feel like the high cost of the whole unit is what still makes board work worth it in some fields. Do you mostly get work from places that can't wait for a full replacement part?

Yeah exactly, it was a patient monitor. The whole board was crazy expensive so swapping a few caps saved them a ton. You get a lot of calls when the lead time on a new part is like 6 weeks, right?
