Client offered extra cash to ignore a capacitor flaw.
Never risk device safety for a faster payout, it's not worth it.

Hold up, not every capacitor flaw is a disaster. If it's in a low-voltage circuit, it might not affect safety at all. Some devices run fine with minor cap issues for years. The extra cash could be for a flaw that doesn't matter much.

Exactly, "some devices run fine for years" is the key point. I've seen old gear with bulging caps that still works okay in non critical spots. The risk isn't always an instant fire, it's more about slow decay of performance. But if the cap is just a little off spec in a power supply filter, you might just get more noise. Spending extra to fix that might not be worth it if the device is old and you just need it to limp along. It really depends on where the bad cap is in the circuit.

That's playing with fire, honestly. A weak cap can slowly mess up other parts over time. Just replace it and sleep easy.
