Stubborn 3-way switch that ate my whole Saturday - do you power down or work it hot?

Spent 6 hours chasing a dead leg in a 3-way setup because the previous guy used the wrong traveler wire color, and I kept second-guessing myself. Do you usually kill the whole panel and work clear, or do you leave it hot and meter through until you find the glitch?

Kill the whole panel every time after I got zapped by a mislabeled hot in a j-box, no more guesswork for me lol.

Grab a voltage tester and a label maker before you touch anything next time. It's saved me from way too many surprises.
