Question about those cheap voltage pens from the big box store
I always thought they were junk, but mine saved me from a nasty shock last week when it beeped on a neutral that was somehow live in a 1978 split-bus panel.

Buddy's cheap pen found a hot ground wire once.

Totally believe it, @king.lisa... those things are way too eager to light up. I had one scream at a cold water pipe because of some weird induced voltage. Makes you second-guess every beep after that.
