Heard a new apprentice call a wire nut a 'twist cap' the other day

Made me think about how the old terms are fading. My journeyman back in '98 would have just called it a marette, no question. What's the weirdest new name you've heard for a basic part?

Notice how everything gets rebranded into generic, forgettable terms. It's like the specific knowledge from any trade just evaporates into marketing speak. Makes you wonder what actually gets lost when the precise language goes away.

Actually, generic terms can help more people get the basic idea faster. Not everyone needs the exact trade jargon to understand a problem or a solution. Sometimes the precise language just becomes gatekeeping, and simpler words let way more folks into the conversation. The core knowledge doesn't disappear, it just gets translated so it can actually spread.
