Finally got that tricky 3-way switch in an old farmhouse basement to work after 4 hours of tracing wires!

My 1920s bungalow had a 3-way in the attic that took me a whole Saturday to figure out (the previous owner's "fix" was a real mess).

Got to point out that's not really a 3-way switch. A true 3-way needs two switches controlling one light. What you had in the attic was probably just a switch loop with power in the middle, or a messed up single-pole. Old wiring gets labeled wrong all the time.

Everything in old houses is basically just "figure out what the last guy did and undo it." Spent a whole weekend chasing a phantom switch in my place that turned out to be a junction box buried behind drywall with three different circuits spliced together. Same pattern keeps popping up everywhere with people calling things what they aren't.
