Finally realized I was overcomplicating concrete work after pouring my 3rd driveway in Edmonton
For years I thought you needed a huge crew and expensive forms to get a good driveway pad. Then last fall I saw a solo guy do a perfect 12x20 slab using those cheap plastic edge forms from Home Depot and a bull float, no helper. It clicked that I was wasting money on unnecessary steel mesh and finishing tools when the basics work fine. Anyone else here ditch the fancy gear and go back to simple methods?

Well that just about stops me in my tracks. A solo guy pouring a 12x20 slab with nothing but plastic forms and a bull float? I would have bet money you needed at least two more hands for that size, maybe a power trowel too. Guess I have been overthinking this whole thing for way too long, buying all that extra gear I probably never needed. Makes me wonder how many other jobs I have made harder than they had to be just because I saw someone online using a $500 tool.

I read something from a concrete contractor in Calgary who said the same thing, just keep it simple and get good at the basics.
