Wasted 4 hours cleaning a lamp shade that was just mold
I picked up this cool old brass lamp from a garage sale for $5 last Saturday. It had this fabric shade with a weird pattern on it that I thought was just aged. Got it home and started scrubbing with soap and water for like 2 hours straight. Nothing budged. Then I tried vinegar and baking soda for another hour. Still looked gross. Finally I took it outside in the sun and realized the pattern was actually mold growing through the whole thing. Tossed the shade and now I need to find a replacement that fits. Has anyone else fought with a thrift find that was basically ruined?

Mold in fabric is basically impossible to clean out once it gets established. Good on you for tossing the shade, nothing worse than bringing something home and discovering it's beyond saving. Hope you find a decent replacement that fits the lamp well.

Dang, my buddy tried to save a lampshade with bleach and ended up with a sad, tie-dyed mess.
