Wait, people actually like the SNES controller more than the Genesis one?

I keep hearing folks say the SNES pad is the gold standard for retro gaming, but I think they're forgetting how bad the d-pad is for fighting games. I spent 8 hours last weekend playing Street Fighter II on my Genesis with a six-button controller and hit every special move perfectly. The SNES d-pad always leaves my thumb sore after 20 minutes. Has anyone else actually tested both side by side on a beat-em-up?

The SNES d-pad is basically a thumb torture device if you play any Capcom fighter for more than 10 minutes. I broke my personal record of getting through Final Fight on one bar of health but my thumb was swollen for three days after. The Genesis six-button controller is built like a tank and those extra face buttons make a huge difference for throw moves and supers. What fighting games do you main on the Genesis?

The shoulder buttons on SNES feel like an afterthought.
