That target dumpster behind the mall in Columbus changed my whole approach
Last month I was hitting the strip mall dumpsters near Easton and found a Target one that was packed full of returned bedding sets still in their plastic. The security guard told me I had to leave because it was their policy to wreck everything before throwing it out, I think he said they slash the plastic and dump bleach on it. Now I check for signs of tampering before I even bother pulling stuff out, has anyone else run into stores that deliberately ruin returns before trashing them?

Yeah honestly I've given up on dumpster diving at this point because my luck is so bad I'd probably find the one Target that bleaches everything and then trip into the dumpster myself. I saw a mattress once that looked perfect but when I pulled it out it had a giant slash down the middle and some mystery liquid dripping out of it. So now I just stick to buying stuff on clearance like a normal person and let the pros handle the risky business.

I mean, I had a similar thing happen at a Best Buy last year where they had a whole pile of blenders with the cords cut off, it's like they go out of their way to make sure nothing's usable. Maybe it's just me but that kind of waste makes me wonder why they even bother having a dumpster.
