Hit 500 pounds of scrap metal from curb finds this month alone
I've been grabbing old grills, broken lawnmowers, and random metal stuff from curbs for a while now, but I didn't realize how much I'd collected until I weighed it all in. Turns out I hauled 500 pounds of mixed metal to the scrapyard just in October, and that got me $87. Has anyone else kept track of how much weight they pull from free piles in a month?

Buddy of mine did the same thing last summer. Pulled an old washing machine and a rusted out exercise bike from the curb. He ended up with 400 pounds and 62 bucks for it said it wasnt worth the gas.

Man, I gotta disagree on that one... I've made decent money hauling scrap on slow weekends. Your buddy probably got hit with the current low rates or didn't strip the stuff down right. Even at 62 bucks that's still free money for trash sitting on the curb...

Paul's friend must have been hauling lighter stuff or getting worse scrap rates. A washing machine is mostly steel drum and sheet metal, but an exercise bike has all that plastic and rubber padding that chews up weight. Hit the higher density stuff like cast iron bathtubs or engine blocks if you want to make the trip count. I got one of those old push mowers with the metal decks once and it was almost pure steel, no plastic at all.
