Serious question: vertical or horizontal monitor for your second screen?

I had my second monitor vertical for about 6 months and loved it for reading code and long documents. Then last week my cat knocked it sideways and I tried it horizontal for a change - now I'm not sure which is better. Horizontal is nicer for multitasking with two browser windows, but vertical saves desk space and feels smoother for scrolling. Anyone else flip back and forth between orientations? What made you finally pick one?

Cat knocked it sideways? That's wild, but honestly it makes me wonder how much of your decision is just about what feels new and exciting compared to what actually works better for your work. The real question for me is what kind of tasks do you mostly do throughout the day? Like if your primary screen is for video editing or design, horizontal makes way more sense for timeline and tool panels. But if you're mostly coding or reading, vertical just kills it for saving space and seeing whole pages at once. I've got a friend who swore by vertical for years, then switched to horizontal after building a new desk setup and now he says he can't go back.

Kept mine vertical for like a year. @henryreed nailed it, totally depends on your main screen setup. Once I got a bigger primary monitor the horizontal second screen just clicked better for my workflow.
