Saw a drywall patch in a Portland cafe that looked like a cartoon explosion
I was grabbing coffee at that place on 3rd and Burnside, and right above the pastry case was this patch job. It wasn't just a bad tape job, it was a full-on 3D mushroom cloud of joint compound, maybe 18 inches wide. They'd painted over it, but you could see every lump and ridge clear as day. Has anyone else seen a repair so bad it became a landmark?

honestly i don't get why everyone's making such a big deal about a bad patch job. like yeah it's ugly but it's just drywall mud. it's not that deep. you see way worse stuff on the daily in any city. probably some hungover guy rushed through it on a tuesday morning and moved on with his life. calling it a "landmark" feels like a stretch. it's just a lumpy wall. half the apartments in this town have something similar if you look close enough.

Right? It's like they're trying to make art by accident. I feel like I've seen that exact same lumpy cloud shape in three different apartments I've lived in.

Oh my god, yes! I saw something just like that in the bathroom of a bar on Hawthorne. It was this huge, bumpy patch over a hole, and they just slapped some paint on it. It looked like a weird topographical map of the moon. I actually point it out to friends now when we go there.
