My uncle swore by using a 12-inch knife for taping, but after a whole house job in Akron I'm switching to a 6-inch.

He said the bigger knife meant fewer passes, but on the ceilings and corners it just left way more ridges I had to sand out for hours, so has anyone found a better middle-ground knife size?

My buddy tried an 8-inch knife for his basement and said it was the sweet spot. Still covers good ground but you can actually control it on a ceiling.

Yeah, @taylor.phoenix is onto something with the 8-inch. I once saw a guy try to tape with a tiny putty knife, that was a mess.

That tiny putty knife story is painful. What was he even trying to fix, a dollhouse?
