My most amusing drywall job involved a very determined squirrel

I was repairing a soffit in an attic when a squirrel had chewed a hole right next to my work area. The absurd part was that it kept peeking out from the insulation, like it was checking my progress. I used metal mesh behind a new drywall piece and extra mud to seal it up tight, and the squirrel finally scurried off. Now I always look for animal signs before I start an attic job.

Figured animal damage in attics was pretty rare before reading this. I used to assume squirrels would just run off if you made noise. Your tale of it peeking out while you worked totally shifted my view. That metal mesh trick is really smart for keeping them out. Now I see why checking for animal signs first is so important.

Hold on, the squirrel actually peeked out while you worked? That's insane! I always thought they'd hide, not check you out like a curious neighbor. Makes you realize how bold they can get when they claim a space.

Actually, @lewis.seth, squirrels acting like curious neighbors isn't that rare in my experience.
