A retired captain once said my swing wire looked like a 'drunken spiderweb'

I was setting up for a channel cut near Mobile and he pointed out I was letting the wire sag too much between the spuds, which was killing my cut accuracy. Anyone have a good rule of thumb for tension on a 10-inch cutter head?

That drunken spiderweb comment hits way too close to home, man.

Try cleaning it with rubbing alcohol first.

Tightening mine up to barely a thumb-width of sag between the spuds on a calm day was the game changer for me, it fixed my cut line completely. @ray_king that old captain probably saved us both a headache with that drunken spiderweb line, mine looked just as bad before I fixed it. Kept a straight edge on the wire and checked it every few passes until I got the feel for it, never looked back.
