Why does nobody talk about garage floors ruining your tools?

I was out in my garage in Phoenix last July, working on my old CB750, and I dropped a 10mm socket. It hit the bare concrete floor and bounced straight into a pile of metal shavings and dust. Took me 20 minutes to find it and clean it off. That got me thinking about how we all obsess over tool boxes and lifts but ignore the one surface everything touches. A buddy of mine in Tucson put down epoxy coating last year and swears his tools stay cleaner and he doesn't lose small parts as much. But then another guy told me epoxy peels up if you drop a heavy engine block on it, and you're stuck with a mess. So which is better: dropping a few hundred bucks on a proper finish or just sweeping more and living with bare concrete? Has anyone here actually regretted going with either option?
